PPA PPA resin is more solid and harder than fatty polyamide, such as nylon 6, 6 and so on. It has lower sensitivity to water, better thermal perbbbbance, and better creep, fatigue and chemical resistance. For example, the PPA resin containing 45% glass short fibers has a tensile strength of about 276MPa, the flexural modulus more than 13786MPa, and the thermal debbbbation temperature (HDT) of 549 degree F. The tensile strength can reach 117MPa even if the mineral filler level is PPA. The extensibility of PPA resin is not as good as that of nylon 6 and 6. However, an unreinforced impact grade PPA resin has been developed, and its notched cantilever impact strength is as high as 20 feet / pound / inch.
All polyphenols absorb a certain amount of water, causing plasticization and size change. For example, nylon 6, 6, at 23 degrees F, the relative humidity is 100%, it can absorb 8.9% of the moisture, which makes its glass transition temperature from 6.5 C to a 20 degree temperature, the size increased 2.3%. Under the same conditions, the PPA resin can absorb about 6% of the moisture, but the vitrification temperature of Tg will not be less than 40, and the accompanying size increases not more than 1%.
As mentioned before, glass reinforced PPA resin has a high HDT value, which can tolerate short term effects of high temperature, for example, in a furnace, or in steam phase and in the process of infrared countercurrent consolidation. The thermal oxidation stability of PPA resin makes it capable of long-term high temperature effect and glass enhancement PPA. Within 20000 hours, its continuous use temperature can reach 330 F.
Under normal conditions, PPA resins usually exhibit excellent anti solubility for fatty hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, alcohols and most aqueous solutions. This kind of resin can not withstand the effect of extremely strong acid and strong oxing agent. It is soluble in phenol and cresol. PPA is not naturally flame-retardant. According to the UL94 standard, the flame retardant grade resin is graded to VO until 0.031 inches thick. Although other melting processes can be used, the vast majority of PPA resins are processed by traditional injection molding. Pre drying PPA raw material to a humidity level below 0.1% and then loading it into a thermally sealed bbbbl village bag or box. These containers ensure that PPA raw materials need not be dried before processing. The moisture level acceptable to the processing process is 0.15% or lower. The processing of wet resin can reduce the molecular weight and cause the loss of mechanical properties. Using a desiccant bucket dryer, it is easy to dry the resin to the dew point humidity of 25 F or even lower at 175 F. The drying time depends on the amount of water absorbed, usually within the range of 4 - 16 hours.
